Woodhurst's first game of the new season in the Premier Division ended with three well-earned points.
|
Despite coming close through Eric Ibekwem in the opening minute, the Hurst new signing firing over from six yards after a Jan Souleyman cross, Woodhurst were soon on the back foot.
One to forget for Tom Gray when he dropped a high corner to the feet of the attacker who fired in on five minutes.
Another defensive lapse let the home side in for 2-0 with barely 10 minutes of the new season gone, leaving Roy Lawley's army with an uphill battle.
'Buffalo' Jimmy Woodham gave the Hurst something to work with midway through the half, poking home a low near post cross from the lively Nigel Jordon.
A leveller soon arrive when Jan 'let's hope I don't hurt my wrist' Souleyman crafted an opening with a reverse pass into the path of Ibekwem. The striker, running one-on-one with the 'keeper, coolly slotted in, much to the delight of his excited manager.
The turn-around was complete ten-minutes before the break when a speculative Jordon shot just inside the box slipped under the body of the diving 'keeper and Woodhurst were in front.
Chances arrived for both sides in the second half and Woodhurst just couldn't close out the game to ease the pressure. But they managed to hold out for the points to begin the season in perfect fashion.
