Woodhurst collected their first three points of the new year with a comfortable win over Essex Snooker in Dagenham.

Following the poor start to 2005 in the defeat at home to Winward, Roy Lawley made changes and opted for a five-man midfield. In came Kofi Owusu and Nigel Jordon, while Simon Probert began in the right wing-back slot.

Against a tough outfit who didn't mind getting their knees dirty, Woodhurst's ability on the ball was evident from early on, and despite going a goal behind - against the run of play - it was only a matter of time before the visitors showed their true colours.

Soon after the forced alteration of hamstring victim Jamie Bradbury off for Patrick Ladbury, Woodhurst were on level terms.

Jan Souleyman, whose virtuoso perfomance in the free role was outstanding, created the opportunity for Andrew Sheppard to slot home. That was after half an hour.

Then two more quick goals put them 3-1 up at the break. First Owusu, who has a habit of finding the net, grabbed his sixth of the season diverting a Souleyman drive past the 'keeper. Then a minute later, Nigel Jordon did well to beat the goalie with a flick of his white Nike and prod into the empty net from close range.

Following the turn around, it was a simple case of 'how many'. Both Sheppard and Jordon found themsleves guilty of missing easy chances, but today it wouldn't matter. When Jimmy Woodham's deft chip from a tight angle caught the goalie knapping, Woodhurst were virtually home and dry.

Sheppard's neatly-struck volley made it 5-1, before a well-worked goal for number six pulled the Snooker defence apart.

Once again, Souleyman was involved, bringing the ball out from defence over on the Woodhurst left. He delivered a pin-point pass to the head of Sheppard on the edge of the box and his header in to feet of Ladbury was perfect. With still much to do, the recent new recruit to the 35 club, controlled his first time strike well to send the ball into the top corner of the net from 18 yards.

In all honesty, Woodhurst should have had even more than six, but a combination of complacancy and over-playing crept in and the score remained a 6-1.

But today was only ever about three points.
