Essex Sunday Corinthian League T&D Cup Round Two

Referee: Elliott Kaye

Woodhurst progressed into the semi final of the T&D Cup in comfortable style with a 4-0 win over Dagenham outfit Berwick Manor.

From the moment Kofi Owusu gave the home side the lead with his 7th of the season, arriving at the back post to knock in Tony Taylor's deep free kick, in the opening ten minutes, the result never really looked in doubt.

Jimmy Woodham doubled the advantage, shooting inside the post from 12 yards after a Jan Souleyman cut-back, and despite a couple of forays forward from the fairly mobile Manor attack, a penalty just before the break virtually sealed the win and a last-four spot against Cambourne Wednesday.

Jamie Bradbury fed Souleyman just outside the box and he attacked the Berwick back four. Jinking inside one and outside another, a desperate challenge sent him sprawling and the referee had no option but to point to the spot. Up stepped Andrew Sheppard and he gave the 'keeper no chance sending the kick into the top corner of the goal for his 20th goal of this campaign.

Full of confidence after the break, Woodhurst really should have made the result far more emphatic, but with the game pretty much sewn up, they looked to walk the ball in, while the visitors struggled to get the ball out of their own half.

Manor defending did keep out a couple of good efforts, two goal line clearances from two Bradbury efforts, and a neat stop from a Jordon chance, while Bradbury saw a last minute free-kick strike the apex of bar and post.

The second-half's only goal came from Nigel Jordon's free-kick after the Ilford boy was himself fouled 20 yards out. His low show went below the jumping wall catching the keeper unaware and went bouncing off his legs and hands. He could only flap wildly as he tried in vein to keep it out. He didn't and Woodhurst had their fourth of the day.
